Blitz Post: Get Real

Book & Author Details:

Get Real by Tellulah Darling
(Get Real, #1)
Publication date: September 26th 2015
Genres: Comedy, New Adult, Paranormal, Romance

Magic and Mayhem in Manhattan
Francesca Bellafiore comes from a nice Jewish family — one that happens to have magical powers. Underneath her good-girl exterior, though, she’s a wannabe badass with dreams of becoming a paranormal detective.
Party boy Rafael Muñoz does everything possible to publicly disappoint his high profile father. Privately, it’s a different story. His carefully crafted bad boy reputation masks the fact he’s a master illusionist, forced into solo covert ops. The role is wearing thin and Rafael longs to be part of a team.
When Francesca and Rafael meet, it’s love at first sight… For about five minutes. Rafael is spectacularly attractive—and, Francesca discovers, fully aware of the fact. Rafael knows from experience that girls like Francesca are more trouble than they’re worth.
So it sucks big time when they’re caught in a web of magic, minions, secrets, and enough sexual tension to power NYC. Their only chance to save the city and survive is to team up, trust each other–and maybe even fall in love.
Provided they don’t kill each other first.
Get Real is a romantic comedy, urban fantasy whirlwind with sass, sex, and swoon.

Tellulah Darling

Sassy girls. Swoony boys. What could go wrong?

1) YA & New Adult romantic comedy author because her first kiss sucked and she’s compensating.
2) Firm believer that some of the best stories happen when love meets comedy and awkwardness ensues.
3) Sassy minx.

Both a hopeless romantic and total cynic, Tellulah Darling is all about the happily-ever-after, with a huge dose of hilarity along the way. Her romcoms come in a variety of flavours and heat levels.

The moon was full. I’d lost my cardigan somewhere in the house but this late in June, the night before the summer solstice, it was warm. The thump of bass and tinkling laughter from the party kept me company, but I was alone until a familiar weight crushed my lap.
The swing jolted sideways.
“Give us a sip,” Devi said, sprawling across me. “I’m parched.”
I half–heartedly shoved her. “There’s this amazing old–school technology called a tap. It pours wa-
ter to quench your thirst.”
“It’s too crowded in there. And some obnoxious ass is juggling kegs. This does not bode well for
the rest of the evening.”
Great. I’d probably end up on healing duty.
Devi slid off me and swung her legs onto my lap, nestling against the green cushions resting along
our backs. She held out her hand imperiously.
I handed over my soda. “Any sign of the target? Or his friends?” I asked.
“No sightings yet.” Eli slumped down on my other side. He flicked my knee to get me to move my
leg from under his, since he’d sat on it. Then he snatched the bottle from Devi before I could grab it, and took a long swig.
Eli sputtered at the taste of it. “Coke,” he said with the same disgust reserved for “herpes.”
I wiped off my arm with a grimace. “Where’s Byron?” I asked.
Eli set the bottle down between us. “Last I saw, she was pretending to hostess but really watching
the front door like a hawk waiting for her boy toy to show.”
Byron gracefully sat down into the teak chair to my left, placing her own drink on the low table in
front of us with a gentle clink of ice. She’d changed from her more casual sundress into dark skinny jeans and a sparkly black top, her hair curled in gentle waves. What a good–looking bunch we were. “Hardly a hawk,” she said.
“A lady hawk.” Eli leaned forward to inspect the dark liquid.
“Rum and coke,” Byron said, sliding her glass away from him. “And off limits to boys who insult.” I leaned my head on Eli’s shoulder. “This is nice. Who knows how many more moments we’ll have
like this for a while?”
Eli slung his arm around me. Devi reached up to take his hand, while Byron swung a foot onto
his lap, as we all watched a couple dance in lazy turns on the lawn to the dubstep pounding from the living room.
I was really lucky to have them, these friends who loved me for who I was, pointless boiler aspira- tions and all. I sighed, all warm and snug.
Then some guy stepped into the back doorway, framed by the soft light over the door and I forgot these people existed. Hip braced against the wood, he lounged all cocky arrogance. He wore dark straight–leg jeans, hanging low on his lean hips, and exposing a glimpse of hard abs under a T–shirt reading More Issues Than Vogue.
I laughed softly, even as my stomach clenched in swoony delight.
I couldn’t tell his eye color but he had black hair, cut short on the sides and longer on top.
He flexed a hand, rubbing it roughly over the top of his head. It left his soft–looking strands all
mussed up. Even his fierce scowl didn’t detract from his looks. Though he wasn’t my usual pretty boy type.
The more I watched him from my cover of the shadowed swing, the more his smoldering dark looks made “pretty” kind of boring. “Figo,” I sighed. “Who is that? But don’t—”
Every single pair of my friends’ eyes swung toward him.
“... Stare,” I said.
“Hey.” Byron bounced on the seat at the sight of him. “That means Jones must be here.”
She glanced around.
Eli clamped a hand down on her as she tried to get up. “Play it cool.”
She grumbled but stayed put.
Devi swung her head between the unknown beautiful boy and me. “Do tell. I’m intrigued by any
male who gets Frankie so hot and bothered.”
“Am...” I started to protest, but got distracted by the view as he turned around.
My friends snickered.
“Not,” I finished.
“Yeah you ‘am,’” Eli said. “Name him already Byron, so that Frankie may harness his body for
unspeakable acts.”
I waved a flustered hand at him. “Shut up.”
Devi half–raised her hand. “Wait. I want her to speak them. The acts.” She took my hand and
placed it on Eli’s leg. “Or just point out on Eli where you’d like to touch this guy.”
I snatched my hand back with a long–suffering look. “Who is he?”
Byron lowered her voice. Not like he could hear us. “You must have heard of him. Rafael Muñoz?” Devi’s eyes widened. “That’s Javier’s infamous kid, Rafa?”
I deflated. Only because of his reputation and not at all because he now chatted with a supermod-
el–gorgeous blonde. “Could he invade her personal space any more?”
I guzzled down the dregs of my Coke.
“Don’t think of Rafa as marriage material, more like ‘for a good time call,’” Byron said.

I’m thrilled to be the maid of honor in my friend’s wedding, but the best man, Andrew McCormick, is a chauvinistic pig with a God complex.
And I can’t stop kissing him in closets.
(Don’t ask.)
He’s the brother of the groom and the CEO of my biggest mystery shopping account, but suddenly he’s refusing to be in the wedding. He won’t talk about it. Won’t see reason.
He’s such a man.
And he still won’t stop kissing me in random closets.
(Thank goodness.)
I’m a fixer. That’s what I do. I can fix anything if given the chance. But when the game is fixed there’s only so much I can do.
The ball’s in his court now.
Game on.

Shopping for a CEO is the 7th book in the New York Times and USA Today bestselling Shopping series. “Why did you kiss me the first time? That day when I barged into your office?”
He nods, eyes looking at everything and nothing, finally settling on my face. “Because you were so passionate about protecting Shannon. Because you were adorable and irate and you had this energy I wanted to taste.”
I’m holding my breath. I thought we would spend this first date doing the awkward getting-to-know you dance. Andrew’s gone right to the point. Laser focus.
Just like a CEO.
“Yes. I know what I want. I don’t equivocate. I decide and act. I compartmentalize. I issue orders and execute strategy. You came in that day and started ordering me around and it was cute and exciting and inspiring. Oddly sensual. And when you kissed me -- ”
“_You_ kissed _me_!”
“And when _we_ kissed,” he says, eyebrows raised, as if settling this point once and for all, “I got something far more forbidden than I realized I was getting when I went for that simple taste of you.”
“What’s that?”
He studies me, as if sizing me up, trying to determine whether he should tell me what’s next. Or not. Finally, his face changes through a series of three or four emotions, most of them involving some variation of deliberation.
And then:
“You didn’t fit in a box.”
“I fit in a closet.”
He doesn’t laugh.
“You intrigued me.”
“Not enough to call me after that kiss, though.”
He shakes his head. My heart plummets.
“No, Amanda. The opposite. You intrigued me too much.”
I get the sense that the word ‘intrigued’ means something else.
“You mean I scared you.”
His eyes flash with emotion I can’t read.
Men like Andrew McCormick don’t do this. They don’t lay their emotions out on the table like this. Why is he doing this?
“Then why did you kiss me again? And again. And again again -- ”
“I don’t know.”
“C’mon.” The driver takes us onto the Mass Pike, lights flying by like spaceships. Like little orbs shooting past us, filled with people oblivious to the quantum shift taking place inside this tiny space. “You always know. You’re a CEO. You compartmentalize. You execute. You decide. You act. You can’t tell me that the great wunderkind Andrew Mc --”
He’s on me before I can take an inbreath to continue speaking, his body so big and bold, so impulsive and unrelenting. The limo becomes its own dimension, his hands seeking to hold all of me as we tumble into some new plane of awareness that doesn’t factor into any life we’ve known until this moment. His mouth finds mine, hands under my suit jacket, palm cupping the lines of my breasts, my waist, my hips, and he’s tasting me again, this time with an urgent need that comes from an honesty I don’t think he’s felt permission to express in a very long time.
If ever.

I gave up on my hair and went to get dressed. I tugged on my khaki pants and navy sweater, which made up my glorious Hillcrest Academy uniform, (it was just my luck my school picked colors which made me look like a dead goldfish), grabbed my bag, and went to join the rest of my class lined up to go to the cafeteria. I was almost fourteen and yet had to walk to the lunchroom in a straight line like Madeline from the storybook. Stupid Hillcrest.
Lunch was my favorite part of the day. For one, it meant the school day was half over. I went through the lunch line and grabbed a ham sandwich, some chips, and a bottle of water and went to join my two best friends, Ericka Maines and Tori Robins. The lunchroom was always extra noisy on Fridays because everybody was talking about their plans for the weekend. Sometimes Ericka, Tori, and I went to a movie, but we didn’t do much else. Tori and I liked to go shopping, but Ericka’s parents thought hanging out at the mall would “morally corrupt” Ericka, blah, blah, blah. And they about had a stroke when she wanted to get a social media page. So I was surprised when Ericka said we should all go to the mall tomorrow.
“Landry, they’re having modeling tryouts to be on the American Ingénue show,” Ericka said, showing me the ad she had torn out of the Grand Rapids Press. “The Ingénue judges are trying to find local teens to compete on their reality show.”
I watched every second of the last show. Talisa Milan won and got a Little Rose cosmetics contract and was on this month’s cover of Bright and Lively magazine. She was also a host on Hot Videos Now, a music video show. Melani Parkington, the runner-up, was the new spokesperson for Bouncy Hair conditioner. You were almost guaranteed to be famous if you made it to the final round of the contest.
“First you have to win in your city, and then your state, and then the regional competition,” Tori read. “Then you get to the tough part of the competition where they vote off someone new each week on national TV.”
“It’s an amazing opportunity to get discovered,” Ericka said, checking out her reflection in her spoon.
“Yeah, except for the fact the judges are known to be brutal when they’re honest. Like when they told Melani her gorgeous face was too pinched, her forehead was too low, and her eyebrows were too high,” I said. “They also told one girl she was pretty, but her lips looked like she had walked into a sliding glass door.”
“Well, they did,” Ericka said shrugging. “The newspaper says the first fifty girls who try out got a free American Ingénue tote bag and Little Rose makeup samples.”
They were holding auditions at the Perry Mall, which was the smallest mall in Grand Rapids. There weren’t a lot of stores there, so you usually just saw old people mall walking around there. Still, it had a decent bookstore and a cute clothing store, so I said I’d go watch while they tried out.
“No, we’re all trying out,” Ericka said, grabbing the ad back from me. She said her mother thought she’d be a “natural” for the show since she always got the lead in the school plays. However, Ericka was usually the only one who tried out for the lead. Everyone else felt too stupid singing on stage in
front of the whole school. Besides, you had to stay after school to rehearse, and I liked to go home and watch my favorite soap opera, As the Days Roll On.
“There’s no way I’m trying out,” I said. “They always make the girl stand on a platform while they tell her everything that’s wrong with her. Melani’s gorgeous, and they tore her apart. Besides, I don’t look anything like those girls on the show.”
I didn’t even buy makeup at the Little Rose cosmetics counter because I hated having the salespeople stare at my face to determine whether I was a summer gladiola or a spring daffodil.
“You’re tall,” Tori said. “Remember one judge wanted to kick Melani out for being too short.”
“Yeah, you’re practically the tallest girl in school,” Ericka said.
I was hoping Tori and Ericka would say I was so beyond gorgeous I was destined to be a model. Instead, they pointed out I was freakishly tall.

Sidor: 224

Eliza Freed graduated from Rutgers University and returned to her hometown in rural South Jersey. Her mother encouraged her to take some time and find herself. After three months of searching, she began to bounce checks and her neighbors began to talk; her mother told her to find a job.

She settled into Corporate America, learning systems and practices and the bureaucracy that slows them. Eliza quickly discovered her creativity and gift for story telling as a corporate trainer and spent years perfecting her presentation skills and studying diversity. It's during this time she became an avid observer of the characters we meet and the heartaches we endure. Her years of study have taught her laughter is the key to survival, even when it's completely inappropriate.

She currently lives in New Jersey with her family and a misbehaving beagle named Odin. An avid swimmer, if Eliza is not with her family and friends, she'd rather be underwater. While she enjoys many genres, she has always been a sucker for a love story...the more screwed up the better.

“What is this place?” I asked as Vince shook the umbrella outside and set it open just inside the door.
“It’s my hunting cabin.”
“How fitting.” I slipped out of my rain boots. Vince watched me from the center of the room as I placed my boots near the door. I stood up straight, facing him, facing this.
“I just lost power.” He was still watching me as if I might disappear. “Luckily, I had some candles.”
I nodded, again surveying the stark décor.
I took two long steps and interrupted him with my hands on his stomach. The fabric of his T-shirt was thin, and damp from the rain. His chest heaved as his hot breath swept across my face. Everything about him was warm and inviting. I rested my forehead on his chest and let the scent that was distinctly his flow through me. It took me back to the school bus to Philadelphia. To where I first inhaled the perfect mix of mahogany and strength.
“Meredith,” he started again, and I wished he wouldn’t. I raised my lips to his neck and inhaled again. I wouldn’t let myself think. He hadn’t shaved, and I let his beard scrape against the side of my face, anything to touch him. I didn’t want to consider this, I wanted to feel it. “This can be whatever we want it to be. It doesn’t have to be an affair. It doesn’t have to be what everyone else has done before us. We’re not them.”
His argument against typical did nothing to sway me to our union’s merits, but the expression on his face, his determination to make this work, moved me.
“Tell me what you want.” His voice was gentle near my ear, and I wanted to stay in this cabin, in the storm, forever.
“I don’t know what I want anymore.” The tension rose in my chest. All the schooling, all the money, and I didn’t know what I wanted. How was that possible? I could have anything, but I couldn’t name one thing. “Since I stopped working, I’m lost.” I lowered my eyes to his chest. I was ashamed.
“No, you’re not.” His arms wrapped around my shoulder, his hands moved my hair away from my neck, and he leaned down, letting his lips rest there. I shivered before a heat spread through me. “I found you,” he said, and tilted my face to his. Vince kissed me without waiting for an answer.
He kissed me, right there in the middle of the room, until a heat sank down my spine, anchoring me to the ground in front of him, assuring me against every reasonable argument that this was going to be okay.

Best friends Jay and Mike live by The Bro Code. Their senior year of college is a time to party and prepare for graduation. It's not a time for relationships with serious girls like Amanda Slate. Too bad they’re both in love with her.

What I think about the novella:

Just by reading the blurb of this novella I knew this was something I would enjoy reading.
The novella is short about 80 pages and the language is easy to understand if your first language isn't English or have a bit problem with the reading part.

The Bro Code is a novella that contains humor, love, drama and a little bit tragic which I like to read about when the characters are supposed to be in high school or college since it makes it more realistic.

It is hard to write what I think of The Bro Code since it is just a novella so I think I will leave it here while it's still safe without any spoiler alert.

I give it 4 stars out of 5 :)

As a teen, writing became my passion, and like most aspiring writers, my work was terrible, immature, cliched drivel. I enlisted in the Army, attended college for my creative writing degree, and ended up a paramedic for over 20 years. Currently, I work in safety for a major industrial/construction company. Throughout my life, I've traveled far and pushed myself hard, striving to try almost anything at least once (except skydiving unless the plane is on fire).

Amanda Slate’s legs first got my attention at Mike’s annual Christmas party. She was wearing one of those short dresses that showed them off—and damn!—firm tan legs that went all the up as my gramps used to say. Can you tell I’m a leg man? Oh, I love the rest of the package on women too, but great legs are what I spot first. Tanned and toned with just the right amount muscle. No stick legs for me. I love a girl with some curves! And Amanda, well, she had all the right ones. Too bad I had no idea who she was at time, would’ve saved all of us a whole lot of trouble.

“Hey!” Mike said in my ear as he jabbed an elbow in my ribs.
“Ow!” I jumped. Beer sloshed in my festive red plastic tumbler. “Dude.”
“Quit staring at my girlfriend’s ass.”
“What?” I doubled-taked back to the leggy hottie across the room. “That’s Amanda? Holy shit.”

Holy shit was right. My best friend, Mike, had been going on and on about this new girl he’d met a few weeks ago. Most of what he’d blathered on about had filtered through my brain and spilled back out, but I do remember something about her being smart. Like doctor smart. That had stuck because Mike never dated smart girls. Too much trouble, he always said. I wouldn’t say I agreed with him, but I sort of viewed our college years for fun and tumbles. Smart was for after graduation.

“That’s her!” He grinned and that’s when I really noticed the spark in his eyes.
“Didn’t you say she’s applying for med school?”
“Uh-huh,” he nodded, “she’ll find out before we graduate.” He leaned close and whispered, “She’s worried, but I know she’ll get accepted.”
“Yeah?” A cocked an eyebrow while I kept my eyes on her. Amanda hadn’t noticed us talking about her, at least I don’t think she had. Her animated conversation with friends seemed pretty involved. What were they talking about?
“Absolutely! Dude, she has like a 4.0 GPA.”
Finally I looked at my friend. “Then what the hell is she doing with you?”
Mike laughed and sipped his rum and Coke. “The sex, man.”
“Right.” I looked at her again. “So you guys have…”
“Oh yeah, and she’s, well…” He blushed and ducked his head.
Mike sighed and shook his head. “I can’t, Jay.”
“Shit. You like her.”
Mike’s blush got redder, and he hid behind his drink. “She’s awesome.”
“What happened to bag’em and tag’em?”
“I thought we wanted play the field?”
“Jay, man, you don’t understand. I really like this girl. She’s not like the usual fluff.”
“Mike,” I grabbed his shoulder, “you’re freaking me out.”
He pulled away. “Don’t be like that. You just have to meet her, then you’ll understand.”

I don’t have to meet her. I already get it—was what I wanted to say, but I couldn’t blurt that out to my best friend. Maybe I should’ve. Would’ve fixed a lot things right then.

Blog Tour and Review: Impossible Choice

Impossible Choice by Sybil Bartel (Unchecked #2)
Published by: Carina Press
Publication date: August 31st 2015
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
impossible choice
After her parents were murdered, Layna Blair spent three years on the run—until Marine Sergeant Blaze Johnson stepped in and saved her. With him, Layna knew safety for the first time…but two weeks after shipping out for another tour in Afghanistan, Blaze comes home early.
When Layna sees the jagged wounds covering his body, every truth she thought she knew is destroyed. Blaze is distant and angry and though her heart is shattered, Layna desperately tries to keep their relationship together in the face of another tragedy. When the tenuous bonds holding them together are ripped apart by a revenge-hungry maniac, Layna must trust her survival instinct and bury her past for good.
But the enemy is two steps ahead, and before she can take action, Layna’s hand is forced by his deadly demands—save herself or save the man who risked his life for her freedom. Blaze saved her once. This time it’s her turn to protect him.

My review:

I haven't read the first book, Impossible Promise, so at first I feelt like I missed so much,
but after a short while I understand what went down in the first book.
The story was really good and I didn't want it to end but I couldn't just stop reading it.
Impossible Choice contains easy language and are very well-written so for
me who haven't English as a first language it was easy to understand.

I recommend that you read the first book but if you for some reason can't I would say
it works okey with just reading this one but you will probably miss something since that's
how I feelt will reading.
